Suicide blast hits Baghdad suburb as Hollande meets Iraqi leaders
According to Rapporteur Report From, DPA, Link, The attack came as French President Francois Hollande was in Iraq on a visit to French troops training and supporting Iraqi forces for the fight against the Islamic State extremist group.
Hollande also met separately with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Massoum and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
The French president said that his country had "shouldered its responsibilities on the political and military levels" and "the results are to be seen: Daesh [Islamic State] is on the retreat and the battle for Mosul has started."
Iraqi forces launched a campaign to recapture Mosul, the country's second-biggest city and Islamic State's main stronghold, in October.
They penetrated the city's perimeter two weeks later but recently appear to have become bogged down in urban fighting on east bank of the Tigris river.
The city centre, where the jihadists are thought to be more heavily concentrated, lies on the west bank.
