Ministry of Human Rights taking notice of the growing number of child kidnappings in Punjab has summoned a meeting on Friday in Lahore.

Federal minister, Kamran Michael has summoned almost all institutions working for the welfare of children to the meeting. Children Rights Commission, Human Rights Commission, law enforcement agencies and other departments will take part.

The development has come after Senate’s standing committee had taken notice of the abductions in Punjab in the recent past. The committee had urged the ministry to take immediate action in the matter.

The departments concerned will brief the participants on the issue after which a strategy to counter the crime will be formulated.

In a report, Punjab Police stated that at least 6,793 children were kidnapped and 6,654 recovered in the last six years.

Most recently, a three-year-old girl was kidnapped in Anarkali area yesterday and two children abducted from different areas a day before that were recovered.

The minor girl named Jannat Hayat was taken along by her family to shopping in Anarkali when according to her parents, she suddenly disappeared.

Dozens of child kidnapping incidents have surfaced in Lahore in the recent past and according to the police, most of the children run away from their homes due to violence or other clashes and failed to return.
